Shankar recently won the Best Global Music Album award.
While Zoya is an accomplished director, Farhan has been brilliant in direction and acting.
Singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan is currently revelling in the glory of his Grammy Awards 2024 win. His fusion band Shakti, alongside tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, clinched the prestigious Best Global Music Album award. The achievement has garnered widespread admiration, including praise from acclaimed screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar. In a recent interaction with IANS, Javed shared how Shankar’s collaboration proved fortunate for his children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar, both accomplished figures in the film industry.
Javed recounted, “One day, incidentally, I met Shankar at Saregama and narrated a musical idea to him. He instantly agreed to collaborate. We titled it ‘Breathless’. By the way, the musical video for ‘Breathless’ marked the directorial debut of Zoya and Farhan, as they joined forces on it. This convergence of my ‘convictions’, which were not widely shared, gave birth to ‘Breathless’.” He further revealed that this collaboration opened doors to numerous opportunities for the trio in the film industry.
Films directed by Farhan Akhtar consistently feature exceptional music, attributed to the renowned trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Their compositions range from upbeat tracks like Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe from Dil Chahta Hai to soulful numbers like Kandhon Se Milte Hain Kandhe from Lakshya.
Despite the passage of time, the charm of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music remains undiminished. Shankar shared a heartfelt post on Instagram following his Grammy win, expressing gratitude and disbelief at the realisation of a lifelong dream.
On the professional front, Shankar is set to lend his voice as a playback singer for the upcoming film Razakar: The Silent Genocide of Hyderabad, helmed by writer-director Yaata Satyanarayana.
