News18 Showsha Reel Awards 2024: Karan Johar Wins Best Director For Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

News18 Showsha Reel Awards 2024: Karan Johar has won the Best Director (Popular Choice) at the News18 Showsha Reel Awards 2024. The filmmaker was honoured with the award for his movie, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The awards were held on March 9 in Mumbai to celebrate the growing bond between the world of over-the-top (OTT) platforms and the Hindi film industry.

Released in July 2023, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani marked Karan Johar’s comeback as a director. The film starred Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Anjali Anand among others. RRKPK was a quintessential KJo movie and was widely loved by all. It was also a big hit at the Indian box office and earned over Rs 350 crores.

Besides Karan Johar, other nominees in the category were Atlee (Jawan), Siddharth Anand (Pathaan), Anil Sharma (Gadar 2), Rajkumar Hirani (Dunki) and Sandeep Reddy Vanga (Animal).

It should also be noted that this is Karan Johar’s second consecutive win at the News18 Showsha Reel Awards. In 2023, two of KJo’s Dharma movies, Shershaah and Brahmastra won big at the mega show. While Karan had himself accepted the Best Film award for Shershaah, Ayan Mukerji had won the Best Director award for Brahmastra.

After a successful edition in 2023 that celebrated the finest achievements in Indian cinema and recognised outstanding talents within the OTT sector, the News18 Showsha Reel Awards soared to greater heights this year. The awards honoured and applauded the best of content across cinema and OTT. In a world where narratives unfold across various screens, it was a moment to recognise the brilliance that captivates, entertains, and leaves a lasting impact.

Several big celebrities including Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Kartik Aaryan, Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee and Shankar Mahadevan among others also attended the News18 Showsha Reel Awards 2024.
