Here Is The Reason For Taylor Swift’s Surprising Oscars No-Show

In what can be said as Hollywood’s biggest night, the 96th Academy Awards is presently underway at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. With all eyes on the major categories, films dominating the nominations like Oppenheimer, Poor Things, Barbie, and Killers of the Flower Moon, among others, are expected to lead the pack of winners. Meanwhile, an array of celebrities have arrived to take part in the prestigious event. However, there were also a few who surprisingly gave the Oscars a miss.

Taylor Swift was among a few who remained absent at the awards show, leaving her fans disappointed. The Cruel Summer singer was, however, expected to attend the show. While she was no nominee, presenter, or performer, producer Katy Mullan recently raised hopes among fans after sharing that Swift is always welcomed at the Oscars.

Why did Taylor Swift skip the Oscars 2024?

As fans missed out on watching yet another iconic red carpet moment from Taylor Swift, her reason for remaining absent did not come much as a surprise. According to a report in Harper’s BAZAAR, the singer just wrapped up her Singapore Eras tour on Saturday, and it would have taken her around 15 hours to travel to Los Angeles via flight. On the other hand, reports of Swift battling coughing fits during her performances could be another reason why the singer skipped the hectic trip. Recently, her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, also arrived in Singapore to attend her concert amid reports of her health concerns.

Notably, Taylor Swift had never attended the Oscars. However, she did the Vanity Fair Oscars after-parties for a couple of years.

For the second time in a row, fans eagerly expected Taylor Swift to finally get an Oscar nomination for her concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. However, to their dismay, the Academy bylaws make the film “ineligible” to win the Documentary Feature category or any other. The rule states, “Works that are essentially promotional or instructional are not eligible, nor are works that are essentially unfiltered records of performances.”

Earlier, Katy Mullan, while speaking to Indie Wire, about Taylor Swift’s possible attendance at the Academy Awards, said, “Listen, we all love Taylor. She’s the best cheerleader you could ever possibly have in any audience, whether it’s the NFL or an award show. So if she wants to get on a plane and come to the Oscars, then we’ll hold a seat for her, 100 per cent.”
