Released in December 2018 alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero, KGF: Chapter 1 [Hindi] was a surprise success at the box office as it ended up garnering Rs. 44.09 crores. Not many were betting on the Prashant Neel directed action affair with Yash but then the film went on to grow from strength to strength and eventually ended up scoring rather well. So much so that when it’s sequel KGF: Chapter 2 arrived post pandemic, it ended up setting huge records and collected almost 10 times its predecessor by netting Rs. 434.70 crores in Hindi.

Well, one now waits to see if the franchise put together by director Prasanth Verma reaches similar heights as his first film in this universe, HanuMan, has now crossed the lifetime total of KGF: Chapter 1 [Hindi] in mere 16 days (on Saturday). The film currently stands at Rs. 46.87 crores and there is still a bit of a steam left for it to score at the box office. Just like KGF: Chapter 1, it also started slow but then started multiplying footfalls from second day onwards. Of course, at one point in time it seemed like going the Kantara or Pushpa way but that didn’t quite happen.

What has happened though is that Rs. 1.63 crores more came on Sunday, which means at least Rs. 50 lakhs more could come in today as well as tomorrow. Even that would require a good enough hold since Thursday numbers were Rs. 0.77 crores and if not for the Republic Day holiday on Friday, the collections would have come down even further. Fighter is still a formidable competition which means the task is cut out for HanuMan.
